Graeme Batsman, director of Datadefender.co.uk, has suggested that the use of personal devices by employees such as those in IT jobs could open a can of worms for employers.
According to Mr Batsman, the trend for bring your own device (BYOD), has been prevalent for a while but it has grown exponentially over the past number of years.
The main issue, according to Mr Batsman is to do with compliance. This becomes a problem for businesses as it creates some technical issues although he states that if a company provides USB drives, then it can enforce full drive encryption.
Mr Batsman said: "Compliance is a massive problem, since the company no longer controls or has audit records.
"A staff member who leaves may not remove the data and if it is lost one year down the line, it will sting the company after the employment period."
